Skin rejuvenation is the collective term for non-surgical treatments which help us to either maintain or improve the quality of our skin. Primarily covering treatments for the face, this also extends to improve the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
Sun damaged skin covers facial imperfections such as pigmented spots, enlarge pores and fine lines, ages spots and dull complexion. IPL (Intense Pulse Light) improves superficial and deeper skin layers and rejuvenates the skin.
What is it?
Dark or light complexioned, we have all varying amounts of melanin. Melanin is what gives your skin its colour. Pigmented lesions are dark in colour simply because melanin is abnormally concentrated in one area of the skin. High concentrations of melanin can be due to various factors such as age or over exposure to the sun's damaging rays.
How can it be treated?
Pigmented lesions can be successfully lightened or removed with our high specification IPL laser. Intense Pulse Light removes pigmented lesions with the energy light. Each pulse is designed to produce one or more specific light wavelengths which are absorbed by the abnormal concentrations of melanin. The rapid absorption of light energy causes the melanin to breakdown thus reducing concentration of melanin, leaving the treated skin looking uniform in colour and texture.
The flexibility of the parameters used by the IPL technology offers a tailored treatment matched to the individual's needs of their skin. This customisation creates outstanding results and means that minimum numbers of treatments are required.
How many treatments shall I require?
After treatments you will see a reduction of pigmentation, skin is revitalised and smoother. The number of treatments required depends on the extent of the sun damage. However, it is important to note that as the Beauty Advance Clinic employs a high specification IPL hence the number of visits will be fewer compared to treatment performed by an inferior laser.
Will the treatment hurt?
No, however patients often liken the sensation to a sting or a snap from an elastic band each time the laser fires the flash. Patients are able to return to work or go about their daily routine straight away, so there is no loss of time.
Acne treatment
What is Acne and how common is it?
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that affects over 80% of adults. It can appear on the face, chest and neck in a person's teens. If it remains untreated it can cause permanent damaged skin commonly known as acne scarring. An outbreak of acne can reoccur every 4 to 5 years and around 30% of sufferers continue with acne issues into their adulthood.
What causes it?
Acne is triggered by the over active Sebaceous gland. These oil glands are stimulated by hormone testosterone. These oils created by the glands can create a blockage to the gland and pores causing a stickiness allowing bacteria to collect and damage the once healthy skin.
What are the symptoms?
These blocked and partially blocked pores are the catalyst for all inflammatory and non inflammatory spots evidenced by lesions and aggressive red spots. The body reactive to these by sending white bloods cells to destroy these and this creates the pus on the spot. Some individuals never get the redness but their pores collect the dirt and bacteria to form blackheads and whiteheads. Others get painful swollen cysts, which eventually lead to acne scarring if left untreated.
Acne treatments and how they work?
There are several treatments available for Acne. The range, combination and sequence of treatments for each individual will need to be assessed based on that persons skin condition at their stage in the acne outbreak.
It is important to seek early professional advice to prevent long term skin damage.
- Acne gels consisting of active cleansing ingredients.
- Bio-glycolic Oily Skin Cleansing gel followed by Acne Gel solutions that are 100% oil free are used to continually absorb excess surface oils. Microdermabrasion is used to exfoliate the skin.
- Skin peels can be used to encourage the growth of new skin once the Acne is under control. Suitable for all skin types, this treatment addresses the underlying problems, not just the symptoms, and offer maximum benefit with minimal irritation.
- Intense Pulse Light (IPL) can be used to target and stimulate the body to generate more collagen to repair the skin cells and eliminate redness. Antibiotic can help reduce inflammation however this is not recommended as a long term solution as dependance on any drug is unhealthy.
The combination of these treatments can get the Acne under control and on the decline within a few weeks.
What happens if the symptoms re-occur?
The treatments described above focus on the ability to tackle the symptoms of the Acne. Each individual's body will naturally produce their own level of oils from their glands and therefore new outbreaks of Acne are possible, unless a strict routine of skin cleansing and skincare is adopted. In the event of early signs of an outbreak seek professional assistance as the earlier the problem is detected the easier it will be to bring it under control.
What other sources of information exist?
As explained previously, Acne is a common problem for teenagers and adults alike. There are several government supported organizations to help sufferers get through this difficult time.
